PDMA at GIES

Doctoral students and scholars in fields such as Marketing, Innovation, and innovation strategy & management, are producing cutting edge knowledge every day. Given the interdisciplinary  nature of NPD-Innovation work, the PDMA Doctoral Consortium provides doctoral students who do not have a ready community to foster their interests such a community of young and senior researchers supported by the larger PDMA organization.

During the 2-3 day event hosted by a well-known university in the field, well-established and senior scholars and practitioners:

  • Provide doctoral students practical guidance and mentorship in research, teaching and service activities so that they can design avenues for more productive careers,
  • Strengthen young researchers’ interests in and skills to conduct quality NPD-Innovation studies through paper development workshops and other types of workshops,
  • Conduct a research competition where students present their research over multiple rounds, gain feedback, and provide the winners support (financial and non-financial) to continue their research endeavors.

Importantly, the consortium is also practitioner inclusive in that the students will have the opportunity to hear from, engage with, and receive feedback from practitioners with the goal of orienting them to increase the relevance of their research projects to practitioners.

PDMA is immensely grateful to our partner for 2019, Gies College of Business at The University of Urbana Champaign and the Co-Chairs of the Consortium Aric Rindfleisch, Ravi Mehta, and Vishal Sachdev, for designing and organizing this years consortium. During this year’s competition 24 Ph.D. students and 22 well-established faculty attended the consortium. Unnati Narang a Ph.D. candidate in Marketing from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M won first place in the Research Competition winning $1500, conference registration to the PDMA Annual Conference, and PDMA membership for a year. The runner-up was Nadia Danienta, a 5th year PhD student in marketing, from the Gies Business School at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign winning $500, conference registration to the PDMA Annual Conference, and PDMA membership for a year.

Congratulations to all the attendees and we look forward to meeting and hosting another set of bright scholars in the year 2021!
