PIPELINE: A Virtual Gathering of Thought-Leaders in Innovation

By Brad Barbera, NPDP, Executive Director, PDMA and Linda Roach, PIPELINE host, and vice president of marketing, Planview

Innovation and its benefits to business, economies and life in general are increasingly at the forefront of a global dialog. Organizations recognize that innovation is key to progress and that best practices can expedite breakthroughs and advancements.

Over the last few months, PIPELINE 2012, the premier online conference for innovative product development, has drawn more than 1,100 attendees. The virtual conference attracts product development executives from a cross-section of industries around the world, igniting a high-energy exchange. In its third year, PIPELINE has drawn more than 4,000 registrants from small companies to leading brands.

PDMA is an active sponsor of PIPELINE, supporting an excellent forum connecting global thought leaders with product development executives.

PIPELINE is increasingly becoming a “must-attend” conference, known for its educational and inspirational content from leading experts and practitioners in the global product development community:

    • Jeff Dyer, professor of strategy, Brigham Young University, and author of the award-winning book, The Innovator’s DNA, provided insights on shaping innovation within companies
    • Damian Killen, managing director and founder, thrive, spoke on the connection between innovation and personality types
    • Mona Maher, vice president of marketing, Ghirardelli, discussed how visibility into their product portfolio led to sweet results
    • Mohan Sawhney, professor, Kellogg School of Management and PDMA member, spoke on the value of proposition excellence and what it means to strategic product development

Another key facet of PIPELINE’s success is its virtual, flexible format, which allows attendees to participate at times convenient to their schedules. The on-demand capabilities make content available to registrants months past the live event date.

The PIPELINE conference platform is also designed to support and promote interaction – from chat panels in the virtual networking lounge, where discussions can be held between speakers and attendees, to an interactive exhibit hall. On the day of the event, attendees can tune in for live sessions including Q&As or view breakout sessions at their convenience.

Attendees benefit from thought leaders’ decades of experience and analysis – many of whom discuss the key takeaways and best practices they found in the course of their extensive research into global brand leaders. PIPELINE also features successful product development executives who explain their strategies for driving results by leveraging technology, creativity and cultivating an understanding of their customers.

A common theme emerging from the speakers and conversations is a solid recognition that there is no magic wand for ensuring ongoing innovation—it takes a collection of strategies, new ways of thinking and systematic approaches to meet the challenge.

Looking ahead, PIPELINE 2013 will continue the history of excellence. To receive updates on next year’s conference, subscribe to The Product Pulse or send an email to Kaylee@pipeline2012.com.
