Protect your product innovations from the day you first conceive the idea through the day you launch your product and beyond. At some point during the product development lifecycle, product managers, entrepreneurs, inventors and companies alike have to share and discuss their ideas with people who can help vet, refine and commercialize them. Disclosure presents a dilemma or an opportunity for the innovator – depending on how you look at it.

In the evolving digital world of today, basic understanding of your Intellectual Property rights is a must. It can help you protect your proprietary knowledge and investments, understand your competitive advantage, and realize your business goals. If you don’t properly protect your IP, someone else might reap the rewards for themselves.

Rel S. Ambrozy, a Partner at McKenna Long & Alridge LLP, is an accomplished attorney with specializations in the area of intellectual property, government contracts, and international law. Mr. Ambrozy will address important topics and questions on the different types of intellectual property and the benefits of IP ownership.  During this presentation, you’ll learn about how to give your new products “freedom to operate” and how to avoid losing your IP. Mr. Ambrozy will also discuss upcoming patent law changes, best practices and cover a number of scenarios.

Mr. Ambrozy possesses wide ranging experience in nearly all aspects of intellectual property. His practice focuses primarily on litigating and procuring patent rights, typically in the high-tech arena.  Mr. Ambrozy has litigated patents in numerous U.S. federal courts, as well as assisted in the prosecution of several co-pending foreign litigations.  His close cooperation with counsel in Europe, Taiwan, Canada, Japan and Korea is essential to not only ensuring consistency between litigations occurring  simultaneously in the United States and abroad, but to ensure compliance with all applicable foreign practice requirements.

Mr. Ambrozy has also counseled clients regarding not only the patenting of their inventions, but the management and licensing of their resulting patent portfolio.  Such counseling includes performing due diligence investigations in preparation for asset purchases, providing freedom to operate opinions, and crafting licensing strategies. Mr. Ambrozy has significant experience counseling clients on issues of ownership and licensing of intellectual property rights under federal government contracts and subcontracts.

Mr. Ambrozy’s practice also includes counseling clients on not only the maintenance of their trade secrets, but how best to enforce those trade secrets when misappropriated. Prior to joining McKenna Long & Aldridge, Mr. Ambrozy served as in-house counsel for a high-tech start-up corporation.  That experience provides Mr. Ambrozy with insight into how best to merge a client’s concerns with protecting the client’s interests.

Given Mr. Ambrozy's broad educational background and work experience, he is proficient in technical areas ranging from the electrical arts including cellular telephony, liquid crystal display operation and manufacture, internet applications and medical devices to the biological arts including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and bioinformatics. While receiving his Master's degree, Mr. Ambrozy researched the software and hardware components for various heart pacemaker systems. For his Master's Thesis, he developed a rule-based expert system that automated the analysis of functioning pacemakers.
